Patrik Berger collaborated with Carly Rae Jepsen on her new album, Dedicated, released on May 17, 2019.
In this album, Patrik Berger co-wrote “I’ll Be Your Girl” and “For Sure” along with Carly Rae Jepsen. His influence and diverse interest in different genres can be seen through the album’s variety of songs.
Dedicated was a 3-year project for Carly Rae, meant to capture the highs and lows of a breakup, traveling the world, and finding love again. While she began the album with the intention of maintaining a disco theme, Dedicated became a much more diverse collection of songs. “I did have a mission statement to start off, which was disco-influenced, and I think “Julien” fulfills it. But then I met Patrik Berger and he warned me against pigeonholing the project from the start. I just allowed myself to be creative,” said Carly Rae.
The creation of this album had many twists and turns. “I just sort of threw my mission statement out the window and started to play in different areas,” said Carly Rae. “I’m really glad that I did. I think we made something that feels unique to what I’ve done before and that was what I was really hoping for.”
Berger is a Grammy-nominated composer, producer, and musician. His eclectic work on Carly Rae’s album can also be seen through his work with artists such as Charli XCX on “Boom Clap,” Robyn on “Dancing On My Own,” Icona Pop on “I Love It,” and Santigold on “99¢.”
There’s much more music to come, as Carly Rae Jepsen plans on expanding upon this album with a Side B of Dedicated. Listen to the album on all streaming platforms!
