Co-written and produced by Jason Evigan, “I Wish” is Hayley Kiyoko’s long-awaited release since her debut album, Expectations, in 2018. “I Wish” was also released alongside a magical music video that Hayley Kiyoko directed herself.
The video features Hayley surrounded by a group of friends as they “oversee her magical attempt at finding love” (Teen Vogue). Kiyoko is using her own life experience to relate to her fans. “It’s really hard when you love someone who doesn’t feel the same way,” says Hayley. “I wanted to bring to life the support group we all need when our love for someone isn’t reciprocated. Having a strong support system of friends is so important to remind us we are loved and we are not alone.”
Jason Evigan’s work on this mid-tempo, relatable track certainly helps this message shine through. In the past, Evigan has worked on global hits such as Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” and “What Lovers Do” as well as Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack” and Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty.”
