Katy Perry’s fifth and newest album Witness has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Released on June 9, 2017, Witness is her third album to reach No. 1 following Teenage Dream and Prism. Now four years after the release of Prism, Katy Perry is back on top with the help of Sarah Hudson and Serban Ghenea, among others.
Los Angeles-born songwriter and vocal producer Sarah Hudson co-wrote 7 songs on the album including “Hey Hey Hey,” “Swish Swish,” “Mind Maze,” “Miss You More,” “Tsunami,” “Bigger Than Me,” and “Pendulum.” This is not Hudson’s first time working with Perry, as she co-wrote “Dark Horse,” Perry’s best selling single to date, as well as Ferras’ “Legends Never Die” ft. Katy Perry. It is also not her first time working with Nicki Minaj, who is featured on the fourth song on the album “Swish Swish.” Hudson co-wrote Minaj’s 2014 hit “Get On Your Knees” ft. Ariana Grande.
8 time Grammy award winner Serban Ghenea mixed the entire album, making it not only his second venture with Katy Perry, but also his second hugely successful venture with Katy Perry. Ghenea mixed 5 out of 6 chart topping hits from Perry’s 2010 album Teenage Dream, including “Teenage Dream,” “Last Friday Night,” “California Gurls,” “E.T.,” and “The One that Got Away.” This success has only continued with Witness singles “Chained to the Rhythm,” “Bon Appétit,” and “Swish Swish.”
Keep an eye, or ear, out for Katy Perry’s 4th single from Witness titled “Save as Draft” on the radio this Monday, June 26th.
