Alex Newport has produced, engineered and mixed several releases which gained worldwide attention for being at the cutting edge of innovative rock in the new millennium, including At The Drive-In’s ‘In/Casino/Out’, ‘This Station Is Non-Operational’ and ‘Vaya’ (Fearless), and The Mars Volta’s ‘Tremulant’ EP (Gold Standard Labs/Universal). Alex currently lives in New York City. He generally works out of his own analog-based recording & mixing studio, Future Shock, though he has been known to travel to the far corners of the globe to produce the right band. Alex was introduced to the world of record producing in the early 90’s when he produced, engineered and mixed albums for his own band Fudge Tunnel (Earache/Columbia) and became quickly in demand as producer/mixer, as Alex’s strength is his ability to be flexible and knowledgeable with many genres of modern music. He has worked with artists as diverse as Death Cab For Cutie (Atlantic), The Melvins on ‘Stag’ (Atlantic), Knapsack (Alias), The Locust (-Anti/Epitaph) and Two Gallants (Saddle Creek).
2009 has seen Alex once again working with a diverse range of artists including Johnny Foreigner (Best Before), Peggy Sue (Yep Roc), Pissed Jeans (Sub Pop) and the new album “Poetry Of The Deed” – recorded and mixed entirely on analog tape - for critically acclaimed UK songwriter Frank Turner (Epitaph/Xtra Mile). In addition, Alex has recently been making a name for himself as a skillful mixer. Recent mix credits include a track on Death Cab For Cutie’s Grammy-nominated and Platinum-selling album “Narrow Stairs”, Two Gallants ‘The Throes’ remix, and albums for Piebald, Sepultura, So Many Dynamos (Vagrant), FACT (Avex/Vagrant), and 4 full lengths for Tokyo’s Polysics (Sony Japan/Myspace Records).
